Favourite Moments

My Reflection:

I was learning to make a Tagul about my favourite moments of the year in room 28\29.It was hard because it was my first time doing a Tagul and I didn't know what to do.I enjoys seeing what I had made.My next step is to put more words in it.

My End of Year Reflection

This year I learnt how to do ratios. An important decision I made this year was sitting at the front of the mat.One goal I accomplished this year is learning decimals.This year I tried to be a better person by trying harder and doing more practise in my maths and reading.My favourite memory from this year was when I went up 5 levels in reading.The funniest thing that happened this year was when Mrs Melville's puppy peed on Micahs leg!

Swimming Dolphins

I am learning to to back stroke all the way to the other side of the pool.I need to practise to keep my legs off the ground when I am doing back stroke.I know when I am doing back stroke good because when I have my back up and my arms are touching my ears then touching my thighs.

My Fractured Fairy Tale

My Reflection
I was learning to write a Fractured Fairy Tale.
Overall I thought it was fun because I liked making up the story.
My favourite part was making up the story because I like making up stuff.
My next step is to put more detail in it.

Term 4 Week 6

On Friday last week Room 28\29 went to the reserve  by the school and were going to play sports. So we got into the groups and the groups were..... the Year 4's up against the Year 5's.We were going to play... Soccer Baseball. It is when you put 3 soccer balls on 3 cones. Then you place some cones in a triangle shape.Then you make another square inside the triangle.After that the other team goes and spreads out in the spaces.

First of all it was the Year 4's that got to kick first and the year 5's had to field.When the Year 4's got to kick we got heaps of points at the start.First it was Dee,Micah and Joshua.They got 6 points for us. In 2 kicks we had all ready got 12 points.Then it was my turn I was with Peter and Ella.I kicked it and WHAM! I kicked it about 20 meters.Then I started running I nearly got around 2 times but the Year 5's got all the balls on the cones.At the end of it and all the Year 4's had a turn we had 25 points.

Then it was the Year 5's turn to kick and our turn to field.I went to field and  positioned my self by the square.Then the Year 5's kicked and they made 2 laps.Time went by and we saved heaps of them.Then it was the final one and they needed 5 points to win and they kicked and they started running.They got round once now they only need 2 more points to win and we only need to put one more ball on one of the cones.

Finally it was the end and the Year 4's had 25 points and the Year 5's had..... 26 points.Then everybody went home.

Term 4 Week 5

On Saturday some of my Dads friends came to celebrate my Dads birthday.Before they got to our house my Mum had to make the food.It took us about 2 to 3 hour but in that time we made cake,potatoes,pork and tiramisu. At about 5:00 they got here we had some food and had a pillow fight.

Then the other people got here and we played some rugby in the lounge with a plush minion and my team won 27-20.Then my Dad got home from his meeting.We all said happy birthday.After that we had dinner we had pork,salad,sausages,garlic bread and potatoes.

Then we went down to the drive way and got the fire pit out and started a fire in the fire pit.After that we got the fire works and we had about 50 fireworks.So we did about ten of them and I was running around the fireworks and then my mum said "Don't do that or your pants will get singed".

 So I went and got some new pants on.Then we did all of them and then we went inside and had another pillow fight when you had to try and get Kevin the minion and who ever had it at the end is the winner.After that we had dessert we had ice cream,tiramisu and cake and watched a movie.We watched paper planes. Finally everybody left at about 11:30.Then I went to bed a about 12:00.

Fractured fairy tale

My Reflection
I am learning to write a Introduction to a Fractured Fairy Tale.
Overall I thought it was hard because it was hard to pick of a story to base it on.
My Favorite part was writing the story because I like making stuff with my brain and making stuff up.
My next is to put more detail in and making it a bit more interesting.

World Cup Recount

                                

Last Sunday it was the day the Rugby World Cup Final.The All Blacks vs The Wallabies.The All Blacks came out of the tunnel and Richie Mcaw led them.Then the Wallabies came out of the tunnel and stood on the other side of the All blacks.About 5 minutes later the All Blacks performed the Haka. About 10 minutes later the Wallabies sang their Anthem.Then the All blacks sang their Anthem.Then the game started the Wallabies kicked of and we ran.After about 30 minutes later Aaron smith passed to Richie Mcaw and then he passed to Skutter and Skutter scored in the corner and the crowd went Wild!!! Then Dan carter got the conversion. That means it is 7-0 to the All Blacks.Then it was half time. Everybody in the stands went to get food at half time.

Then the second half started and the All Blacks kicked of this time.The Wallabies caught it and ran with the ball.Then 10 minutes later the Wallabies dropped the ball and Sonny bill Willaims picked it up and got tackled but just before he got to the ground he flicked it to Ma a Nonu and he ran and scored. Then Dan carter  got the conversion so that means it is 14-0. Then the All blacks kicked form half way.Then about 20 minutes later Ben Smith did a tip tackle on one of the Australians.The ref said it was a yellow card.About 5 minutes later the Wallabies scored a try and got the conversion. The score is 14-7. About 5 minutes later they scored again and got the conversion that means the score is 14-14.Then Julia Savea ran down the side line and scored.Then Dan Carter got the conversion. Now it is 21-14.Then the Wallabies got a penaltie. They went for the penaltie goal and they got it now it is 21-17.Then Dan Carter got a field goal from 45 meters away.Now it is 24-17

2 minutes before the game ended the Wallabies dropped the ball and Ben Smith picked it up and stepped not 1 but to and grubbed it and Buedan Barrett chased and chased and then he scored and the crowd went WILD!!!!  

Narrative Writing

My Reflection
I am learning to write a narrative.
Overall I thought it was tricky because it was hard to think of ways to describe it.
My favorite part was sorting out the parts of the story.
My next step is to describe more specifically.

Overall I thought it was hard because It was hard to think of one or two sentences to make into a  summery. My favorite part was picking a article.
 My next step is to put more detail in.

Probability with Yahtzee

I was learning about probability.  We had to play the game Yahtzee and talk about which combinations were most likely and least likely.

I had to play the game Yahtzee and do the follow up sheet.

I thought it was fun because I like learning new things.

My next step is to use probability in new ways.

Term 4 Week 1

On Wednesday I got invited to Kelly Tarltons from my friend called Dee. We did a dive challenge where when you found all the dives you could go to the activity room. The people that came were Dee,me,his mum,his Aunty and his cousin.Then we got a picture taken.

First we went to see the penguins.All of them were mostly sleeping and some were getting fed.One penguin was standing by the water sleeping and....... he fell into the water!Then we sore a penguin eat a whole fish in one gulp.

Next we sore a HUGE stingray.In the same tank of the stingray  their were some pretty ugly fish.After that we went though the tunnel and saw sharks,fish,lobsters,crayfish,more stingrays,starfishes,seahorses,jellyfish and a squid.We found all the dives we found a mask,a crowbar,a radio,air tank,flippers and finally a camera.After we found them we kept going round and round and round it again.

Finally we went to the activity room and got a certificate and played with some Lego.Then we went and looked at our photo.Then we went to mac Donalds.I got a Mc chicken and some fries.   Then we went back to Dee's house and played on his PS3. We played Rugby league live 3.2 hours later Dee and his mum dropped me home.
Overall I thought it was fun because I do not get to see him that often.
My favorite part was going to Kelly Tarltons because I have never been there before.

Changing the NZ flag

Learning about Fractions

What is an Improper Fraction?
A Improper Fraction is when the top number is bigger than the bottom number

What is a Mixed Fraction?
A Mixed Fraction is when you have a whole and a fraction

How do you change a Mixed Fractions to an Improper Fraction?
First you Multiply the whole number part by the Fraction's denominator. Add that to the numerator. Write that result on top of the denominator.

How do you change an Improper Fraction to a Mixed Fraction?
Divide the numerator by the denominator. Write down the whole number answer. Then write down any remainder above the denominator.
I was learning what a Improper fraction is and what a Mixed fraction is.
Overall I thought it was hard because it was hard to think of the answers.
My favorite part was learning it.

Explanation writing

I was learning to write a paragraph of explanation writing.

I had to watch a video and then fill in a worksheet.

I thought it was hard because I did not know what some of them meant.

I chose to share my learning by creating a paragraph of explanation writing

My next step is to describe it a bit more.

Learning About Explanation Writing

My Reflection

I have learning about Explanation writing. I now know that Explanation writing tell's about how something works. I found the quiz easy because I learned about it last year and I had some information from last year. My next step is to write my own Explanation.

Planting Native Tree's T3 W1

Smash! As I put the spade into the ground. We were planting native plants.On Tuesday Room 28\29 were planting plants behind the back field. There were 3 helper's their names were Anna,Carl and Paul.Firstly Anna said that we had to get into pairs. Me and Dee were a pair. Paul taught us a special technique to plant a plant. There were three different types of plants we could plant. Their names  were Flax,Toi-toi and cabbage tree. Me and Dee chose the Flax first. Next we were planting. First you had to make a square in the ground and dig,dig,dig! Then you had to see if it is deep enough to plant it. After that you get a tablet that is called a fertiliser. You put it in the hole and put your plant over the top then you fill around the side of the plant with dirt and then you stomp around the plant to flatten it. Me and Dee planted 5! The ones we planted were 2 Flax's, 2 Toi-toi's and 1 cabbage tree. I got my hand's all dirty! Finally we washed our hand's and went back to class.
I felt happy because I like gardening.
I can not wait to see them grow

Term 2 Week 10

Last week Elm Park School did some Matariki rotation's for Matariki. It was in house groups. I was in group 16 with Johnny.Each group did three activities


First we went to room 30 with Mrs Howard.We did hand games.I felt confused because I had to tell the year 1's how to play but they did not listen. I felt tired because I tried to tell them but they just went away

Next we went to room 17 and made these thing that go round and round. It was hrd to make them because you had to put a piece of string through tiny hole.

Then we went to room 3 and made kites. It was hard because you had to fold a piece of paper on a line and it was super hard.I learnt that when Maori people were around they used kites to communicate.

Overall I thought It was fun because I learnt new things.
My favorite activity was the kite one
My next step is to learn more Maori so that I can understand more

Term 2 Week 9 Recount

Last Friday our school rugby team played a rugby game. We played star of the sea on our school reserve to represent our school.

First we trained before the game. We did bear crawling, rucking,bum kicks,high knee's, and diving I was pretty tired after that.

Next we kicked off the game. The ref, who came all the way from Hamilton, blew the whistle. I was off for the first half.  The other team mostly had the ball and our team mostly tackled in the first half.

Then we finished the first half and I was on for the second half. I was excited because I had allot of energy.We kicked off the second half. We did heaps more tackling. We scored a try in the last 5 minutes. My friend called Dee got the conversion.

Finally we ended the game we said good game to each other.It was pretty tough because the other team had a good line up. I think our team could improve on our forwards coming up and getting in the rucks and mauls.

Overall, I thought it was pretty hard - the other team were pretty good.
My favorite part was when I ran 10 meters.
I am looking forward to my improvement in rugby and our next game

Term 2 Week 7

Room 28\29 went to Te Tuhi. Te Tuhi is in Pakuranga near the plaza. The year 5's went last Monday and the year 4's went last Thursday.We were invited to make vertical gardens so Te Tuhi could display them at Te Tuhi.  It took 3 trips! But we manged it.


First we cut a plastic bottle and cut  a square at the back so we could hang it up. It was hard because the bottle was hard  and squishy. We had to cut the bottle in a speicel way so it could hang up for desplay.


 Next we Decorated our plastic bottles with stickers and vivid we could write on the stickers or we could just write on with vivid. We writed down words that describe our environment.


After that we put some pummis in and it looked like cow poo! We used a bottom of a bottle to scoop it out. We had to put it up to half way.


Then we had to put some soil in about to the top. Then we pot a plant in I put a lettuce in. It was kind  of hard because the plant was slipery.


After everybody was finished we played a game of hangman. The last one was really hard. It was  25 letter word.


Finally we looked at a 3D art work. It was really cool if you could touch it it would feel 3D.


I felt happy because I was learning sometihng new.

Term 2 Week 6

Yesterday Room 28\29 made Maori God drawings.We did them because we were going to Te Tuhi. First we had to think of ten words to describe our Maori gods and think of a Maori name for our god.Next we had to draw our Maori gods it was pretty hard to draw them.After that we had to colour them in pastel Every body was using good texture.Thirdly we and to cut carefully them out it was hard to cut them out.After that we went on cool text and used different fonts to write our describing words they looked pretty cool.Finally the Teachers glued our Maori gods on to black paper and printed our words out and we glued our describing words on to the black paper.Then we hanged them up in the class.

I am learning to see character  traits in books.
It was easy in the physical l traits because the author put a lot of evidence.
It was hard  in the emotional traits because the author did not put that much evidence.
My next step is to read more carefully to find more traits

Addition and Subtraction Strategies

I am learning to explain rounding and compensating.
It was easy to explain because I practiced at home.
It was hard to think of examples because we only had half an hour.
My next step is to think of better examples.

Term 2 Week 5

Last week the school rugby team played against Shelly park just before lunch. We lost 49-0.I was off for the first half.There is 10 miuntes in each half.If we won we would have got fish and chips.I hope we play again soon.

Term 2 Week 3

This week Len Brown the Mayor of Auckland came to our school. The Kapa Haka group performed a couple songs. Then Len Brown gave it to the principal and a flag. Then his team sang a song. That was really fun! I  was really proud of our school

My Pepeha

This is my pepeha. It tells you where I'm from and what I like. I have been learning to introduce myself using my pepeha. I hope you like It.

Term 1 Week 7

Yesterday room 28\29 did sports with youth town. We went with megatron. We threw balls at cricket wickets. Our team won 3-1. I was with Abhilasha,Charlotte. I can not wait to go next week.

Place value

I was learning to read numbers up to Thousands and to say which is bigger or smaller.

The thing that helped me most was:
- using my basic facts to help with bigger numbers
- remembering to look at the left to see if the digits are bigger
- using streets and houses to break up bigger numbers

- seeing patterns in the numbers that don’t change when they get bigger
- practising on Mathletics

My next step is to:

- try the same activity suing bigger numbers
- use this information to move problems

African Praise Poem

My Reflection

I have been learning to write an African praise poem. It was tricky because It was hard to compare an animal with me. My next step is to add more detail.

Term 1 Week 6

Yesterday room 28\29 did youth town. The year 4 went with Megatron and the year 5 went with Waka. We played heaps of games. I liked playing Mountains and valleys. I can't wait to go next week.

Term 1 Week 5

A couple of weeks ago room 28 went to Te Tuhi . We walked all the way there! We learnt about tapa cloth. We got to do are own one. It was hard to fill in all the gaps. I liked drawing the pictures. It was hard not to paint over the drawings. I wish I can go there again.

Term 1 Week 4

Last week we did sports with youth town. The game we played was called capture the flag. My team won 3-0. I am looking  forward  to doing it next week.

Welcome to my Year 4 learning blog.  This year I am in room 28/29 and my teachers are Mrs Graham and Mrs Melville.  I enjoy reading.  This year I am looking forward to Kapa Haka.  I hope you will enjoy my blog and leave heaps of feedback.
